Charter for Renewing Accountable Government
Charter for Renewing Accountable Government: Reforming government accountability in Victoria 2006-2010
The ASPG Accountability Working Party expresses our concern at the unacceptable state of government accountability to Parliament and the broader public.
We ask that Members of Parliament and prospective Members of Parliament, along with Parties seeking representation in the Parliament of Victoria, support adoption and implementation within the life of the Parliament 2006-2010, of the assumptions, proposed actions and reforms listed below in this Charter (click below to download).
Please indicate your commitment by agreement to these reforms, for the public record.
Further detail can be seen in the accompanying paper “Renewing Accountable Government” (click below to download).

Why Accountability Must Be Renewed
Welcome to the Project:
Discussion paper on reform of government accountability in Australia
In this blog, we seek contributions from members of the Australasian Study of Parliament and anyone else who has an interest in governmental accountability.
Specifically, we ask that you read the proposed discussion paper and make suggestions, comments and/or criticisms.
Our ultimate aim is to refine the discussion paper using the comments, suggestions and criticisms posted here. Periodically, we will post an updated (amended) version of the discussion paper based on the comments posted here. When the amended version is posted, we will attempt to explain the amendments and the reasons they were made.
The first draft of the discussion paper (post 17 August 2006) can be downloaded and/or reviewed by clicking one of the links below:
